| Symantec Security Response recently raised the risk level of Trojan.Peacomm to a category 3 of a possible 5 threat levels, due to the speed and volume in which it is being aggressively spammed across the Internet. The Trojan, which was first spotted January 17, 2007 has been raised to a higher category following a sustained increase in new versions of the attack which appeared over the weekend as the malware author responded to improvements in protection made by security companies by adjusting his tactics.
Trojan.Peacomm is one of a number of spamming Trojan horse programs Symantec has seen lately that appear to originate from Russia and are clearly aimed at making money for the author by pumping up penny stocks. The victim is enticed through social engineering techniques to open an attachment, which typically appears to be a video clip on a recent, newsworthy event. |
The email itself will have no message body, but will have one of several subject lines such as “A killer at 11, he’s free at 21 and kill again!,” “Fidel Castro Dead,” “Re: Your Text.” For a complete list of subject lines, please click here.
Symantec’s new technology, Symantec Online Network for Advanced Response (SONAR), which is included in Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security, helped to detect an increase in activity around supporting files dropped by Trojan.Peacomm early last week, before the threat was seen in the wild. We will closely monitor further information related to this threat, and will provide updates and security content as necessary |

What is StiSvc getting DCOM error in Windows 2003 Server
Q) What is StiSvc and why am I getting DCOM error every few min in my event log on my
Windows Server 2003
Such as: DCOM got error “The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it. “Attempting to start the service
StiSvc with arguments”" in order to run the server {jibber jabber}
StiSvc = Still Image Service and it’s relies on WIA “Windows Image Acquisition”
A) Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
*** By default the above service is Disabled in Windows Server 2003
>>> What this service Provides is image acquisition services for scanners and cameras.
If your getting a error that say’s it is attempting to start StiSvc you will need to enable
“Windows Image Acquisition” in services.
This may take place due to a application calling StiScv.
You will find some info googled that mentions StiScv.exe which does not exist anymore in
Windows XP nor Windows Server 2003.
By enabling “Windows IMage Acquisition (WIA)” that will allow StiSvc to run.
Cheers,
DWS 01/2007

End of year Chart of Accounts
Chart of Accounts
Let’s see – you haven’t thought about accounting in 10 months, it’s 2007, income taxes are due in less than 90 days and you have a big envelope/stack/pile of receipts somewhere that you were saving for a special day. You keep thinking of “just going to an accountant” dumping a whole bunch of info on him or her and then leaving, coming back to crisp, clean tax forms in 2 weeks. If this isn’t you, you can skip to the download, check it out and enjoy life as a blissfully happy accounting whiz. If this IS you – let’s talk!
The first thing you are going to want to do is collect all those receipts, contracts, anything that tells you profits & losses for the year, all of your financial records – all of it. Come back when you’re done.
Ok, done? I’m going to start very basic and work forward quickly so if something gets confusing just read it a couple of times – it should make sense. Your business will pay taxes on your net income. That is the total asssets minus liabilities for your 2006 year.
Assets are anything positive your business owns or has going for it – such as your business checking account, cash, accounts with outstanding balances, furniture, or land. Liabilities are things such as your cost of goods sold, expenses and other negatives such as taxes paid in 2006. Expenses are, very vaguely, that big envelope of receipts.
Once you have all the information on your assets & liabilities collected, download this:
Excel Chart of Accounts
MS Word Chart of Accounts
You’ll see that in the Excel chart, it adds your numbers in groups such as current assets, current liabilities, expenses and then in cell F158 gives you a total net income. While you CAN use this information as a basis to do your income taxes here’s what I suggest: fill in the chart, sort your receipts into the expenses, fill in your assets and print copies of everything. Take the documentation to your accountant and review the info you filled in. You’ll learn a LOT about doing your own taxes this year and next. And your accountant won’t hate you, cuss at you for 12 days and rush your taxes 2 days before you’re due back. ![]()
The other benefit of learning what your expenses and incomes were is simple – you can budget & plan better if you know what your 2006 expenses were. The better you plan for 2007, the more you will make!

ShorteTel WorkGroup – Announce Estimated Wait Time
The following is located within the Admin Manual located via your ShoreWare Director – left hand navigation link via Chapter 14 , Page 272
The Workgroup Queue Handling edit page (Figure 14-7) lets you edit the queue
threshold and the Queue Step Menu. Click Edit Queue Handling from the
Workgroups edit page.
A calling party that reaches the queue will hear the following, in order:
1 The recorded prompt.
2 Silence for eight seconds during the “wait for digits” time-out.
3 The estimated wait time (if enabled).
4 Music on hold for the configured duration.
The calling party does not have access to the DTMF actions while listening to music on
hold.
NOTE The ShoreTel system ignores DTMF actions if there is no message for the queuestep.
Workgroup Queue Handling Edit Page
The Allow agents to pickup from queue checkbox enables and disables the queue
handling step menu.
A five-step menus can be set for each queue.
To set the Queue Step Menu:
Step 1 To set a step, click Step 1, Step 2, Step 3, Step 4, or Last Step. To skip
a step, select Skip This Step.
Step 2
===================================================================================================
Select Announce Estimated Wait Time to enable this feature. This
informs the caller of how much time is left in queue.
Estimated wait time is a moving average based on the duration of the
previous calls and rounded to the minute. It is calculated as:
Average wait seconds = ((“Average wait seconds” * 9) + “New wait time”)
/ 10
Configuring Workgroups
ShoreTel 6.1 Administration Guide 14 – 17
Where the “New wait time” is the time it took the last call to get to an
agent. The wait time that is spoken to the caller is:
Spoken wait time = “Position in queue” * “Average wait seconds”
This means the wait time is based on a rolling weighted average of
previous calls. After 10 calls, 61% of the time is based on the 10 most
recent calls. After 20 calls, 86% of the time is based on the last 20 calls.
The wait time may be inaccurate with a low call volume.
